Fragile Balance

Fragile Balance
Sue Akerman

Title: Fragile Balance

Description: I am inspired by the country I love and my roots are well entrenched in its soil. My concern is for the environment. I am saddened by the power and greed of individuals who continue to destroy our heritage for personal gain. Our precious planet - well taken care of - is the only gift we can ensure for future generations.

I chose to work with teabags because of their fragility.
The balance of nature is just as fragile.
We have a choice: extinction or preservation.

Dimensions: 25cm X 25cm

Materials: Hessian, chamois leather, teabags.
Machine and Hand Embroidery.

Tense

Tense

Title: Tense

Description: This piece is a witness to 10 days of our lives through the media.

Towards the end of 2006 it seemed that crime and violence were spiralling out of control.
I wondered how it would read if I kept the headlines to 30 days of the paper. well, I kept ten days beginning on the 3rd of January 2007. 10 days was enough.
It was ..it is.......bone chilling.
